Robert Stephenson, M.D.
We would like to congratulate Dr. Stephenson on his retirement in January of 2016.
A graduate of Duke University in Durham, North Carolina and the Bowman Gray School of Medicine at Wake Forest University in Winston Salem, North Carolina, Dr. Stephenson completed his residency in ophthalmology at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit.
Dr. Stephenson is the former Chief of Anterior Segment Surgery at William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak. He is also actively involved in the surgical training of ophthalmology residents at William Beaumont Hospital. A former clinical professor at Michigan State University, Dr. Stephenson has been involved in clinical research for the National Institute of Health in Bethesda, Maryland.
Dr. Stephenson has received many accolades and honors in many regional and national publications, including being named the top cataract specialist by ‘Detroit Monthly Magazine,’ one of the best ophthalmologists in Michigan by ‘The Detroit News,’ and one of the best doctors in Michigan by ‘The Detroit Free Press.’ The Publication, ‘The Best Doctors in America: Midwest Region’ has acknowledged Dr. Stephenson as one of the best anterior segment cataract and refractive (glaucoma) surgeons. ‘Hour Magazine’ named Dr. Stephenson one of the “Top Doctors” in the Detroit Metropolitan area. Dr. Stephenson has also been named ‘Attending of the Year’ by the Beaumont Eye Institute where he was also awarded the ‘Raymond R. Margherio, M. D. Teaching Award.’ In the print and online publication, ‘The Best Doctors in America,’ Dr. Stephenson has consistently been recognized as one of the best physicians and surgeons in the entire country, each year from 1997 through 2011.
